Clonea is a classic seaside resort family beach. When the tide is out there is lots of room for walking and playing, and when it’s in the water is still shallow enough for children to splash and play.
The beach itself is quite well sheltered and can be accessed from both ends by car. To walk to the end takes about 15 minutes. The water is clear and it’s sandy underfoot. If you are looking for a good swim then watch the tides or else you will have a bit of a hike before you get into your depth.
Facilities here are quite good. There are basic toilets at both ends and a cold shower at the main entrance. The ramp at this end looks as if the beach could be wheelchair accessible. In the summer there is a surf school and behind the beach there is a caravan park, shops and hotel. There is free car parking about 200 metres before the beach.
Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months.
