Lough Gara

August 2013

Lough Gara is certainly out of the way but it’s a good spot for a bracing swim. When were there the wind was up and we swam in choppy but fresh water. We got in alongside the slipway and, surprise surprise, there was actually someone else swimming before us. Usually, we swim in these places alone.

While it was sandy underfoot as we got in the usual warnings apply . No jumping in, no diving and swim carefully. We didn’t venture out far as the wind was up and we weren’t sure of our bearings.

There is plenty of space for parking here and a good sized green area which is ideal for picnics. Unfortunately, there are no toilet facilities.
