Banagher Outdoor Pool
              September 2013

This must be one of the most unusual outdoor pools in the country, but all the more welcome for that. Situated on the River Shannon, literally, this is a pool of the old fashioned kind , all concrete and steel, which looks like it's been there for the past fifty years.

The pool is about 25 - 30 metres long with access via two old steel ladders. We had a grand swim, alone, up and down the soft water. Be careful though, especially with children, as we couldn't stand at either end or in the middle.

This is a lovely location for a swim with the river beside you and a nice grassy picnic area at the other side. The pool is quite literally outdoors. You don't pay in and it looks as if it's left open all year.

Alongside the pool there is a riverside walk and a pitch and putt course. There is also ample parking and basic toilets cum changing areas.

All in all a very nice place for swimmers and families to visit. Its ok for buggies but more difficult for wheelchairs.
