Inch Beach
July 2012
When we visited Inch on a sunny but windy day in July we arrived at what appeared to be a surfers’ convention. Lots and lots of people on boards but hardly anybody swimming.
Inch is a long and wide open beach and you would want to bring your windbreak if you plan to spend time here. There is plenty of room for walking and playing but, unfortunately, people are allowed to park cars on the beach and they do. You will have to walk down the beach a good bit to get away from all that. But there are lovely views across the bay to the distant mountains.
Kids will enjoy jumping in the waves but if you are looking for a decent swim you would want to pick a very calm day.
Inch is a Blue Flag beach with lifeguards during the summer months. There are basic toilets and also a restaurant right beside the beach. Surfboards can also be hired and lessons provided.
And, if you didn’t know it already, part of the film ‘Ryan’s Daughter’ was filmed on Inch.
Directions:
From Tralee take the N 70 toward Caherciveen and in Castlemaine take the R 561 for Dingle. After the village of Inch you will come to a left turn signposted for the beach.
