Magharabeg, Castlegregory
July 2012
Magharabeg is an attractive Blue Flag beach located on the far side of Tralee Bay, on a narrow spit of land that stretches out into the Atlantic.
The beach is well sheltered in the bay and when we were there the water was calm and ideal for swimming. The sand here is more grey than golden, so it is less than picturesque,
Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months and there are basic toilets. A few picnic tables are located beside the grassy car park. Access to the beach is via a rough slipway which looks ok for buggies but not for wheelchairs.
Various water sports take place here with boats and equipment for hire. Across the road is a camp site and shop.
Directions:
From Tralee take the N86 toward Dingle and then branch off onto the R560 toward Castlegregory. Drive straight through Castlegregory and the beach is a few kilometres further on .
